Choosing a realistic expression in a situation in which art has been burdened by a confused pluralism is a rather bold attitude. When we talk about the young painter Andreja Dujnic, this expression comes from a spontaneous enthusiasm at what has been seen-the real beauties of shape and colour. She records her surroundings in range of magnificent landscapes, through urban and architectural panoramas to intimate still lifes. In each of these segments she finds specific characteristics and shapes them according to the laws of relation of the material to differences of the ambiance and the atmosphere.
Connected with the town she lives in, Petrinja, the painter tries to find those views in which the buildings are fitted into nature, scenes by the River Kupa where colouring and luminosity are intertwined in a poetic atmosphere, and meadows and other plants with a dominant green colour brightened by the sunlight. In several landscapes which surround the town, especially in those connected with the river bank, she endeavours to give each of the elements: land, water, plants and air vibration, that certain characteristic of substance expressed through the structure of colour and light.
The realistic treatment does not prevent the author to express her subjectivity, which is most of all revealed in the cycle of still lifes. It seems that here she turns into the sphere of hyperrealism so each object in her composition gets a dual vision. On one side we have almost photographic records, but at the same time they are quiet intimate notes about the things which evoke memories, dissolve membranes of remembrance and listen to the hidden spiritual states. Regardlrss of the topic, whether it's fruit, wax lamps, an old coal iron or sheets of paper, the painter writes her imaginary diary on all of them.
Andreja Dujnic's first one-man exhibition, presents her as a valuable painter whose talent and education have resulted in, what might be called, a successfully formed painting profile. Since, being recognizable for an artist also means to be assepted.
